Why I chose to create this blog (The Journey)
Growing up, I was told that being a financial planner (FP, or insurance agent) was not a feasible job. I don't recall the real reason given. All I remember, maybe even heard was that the job was a, shall we say, shady one. Probably because back in the day, the rules and regulations were not as strict as today.
For all chinese folks especially, if an FP approaches you talking about insurance, you would probably think, "Are you trying to curse me to death?"
So because of that mindset, among other things, I never thought about being an FP.
That was....until two years ago.
I took a serious leap of faith to explore the world of financial planning. How this went down was I went to a job interview (or so I thought), in response to an ad on a job portal. Long story short on the job ad, it promotes making about $10k a month, potentially.
I've seen enough of such ads to know it's a recruitment ad from an insurance company. Maybe that's why I didn't bring my CV to the interview.
The interviewer was nice enough to map out how to get my license ie. get coded by MAS. (For all of you out there who wants to enter this industry, you have to get licensed/coded by MAS). To do so I had to pass four papers:
- M5
- M9
- M9A
- Health Insurance (HI)
Long story short, I passed the first three papers in a space of two months; but it was what I learnt preparing for those papers that literally changed my perception of this industry.
To say that a whole new world was opened to me was probably an understatement. Gone was the mental refusal to join this industry and its excuses that came along with it.
Instead, I realize that this industry had great potential for a successful career, as well as personal growth.
My journey to get coded by MAS was delayed last year due to the pandemic; but that didn't stop me from wanting to join this industry.
After the circuit breaker period, I went on to complete the HI paper. A month later, mission accomplished. I officially got coded.
It's been a year since the coding; and I thought I use this platform to reach out to you out there as an official FP, providing you with information on how you and I can better plan our finances.
So, after hearing my long-winded story, the question now is...what to expect on this blog?
My answer.....various topics and links that may help give you a better view on our world of financial planning. I intend to use various links, social media videos, e-brochures and others and you can use these links to find out more.
So, as always...Stay Tuned!!
